PRF vs. PRP
Although both PRF and PRP contain growth factors, there are a few differences between how these two treatments work and how they’re prepared:
- PRP is spun at a higher speed. To make either PRP or PRF, the blood sample is spun at a high speed so that the heavier components fall to the bottom of the container and the lighter components (e.g. the plasma and platelets) remain at the top. This way, it’s easier to separate the plasma and platelets when it’s time to do so. PRF carries more healing factors than PRP, so to ensure that the individual cells aren’t damaged in the process, PRF is processed at a slower speed.
- PRF usually has a higher platelet count. Because PRP is spun so quickly, many of the platelets get left out of the final product. Even so, the number of platelets is still much higher when compared to normal, un-spun blood.
- PRF releases platelets and growth factors slowly. One of the biggest differences between PRP and PRF is the release time. Once injected, PRP releases its platelets and growth factors quickly, while PRF releases the goods slowly.

PRF hair restoration therapy is simple. Before the treatment, the patient’s blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge (see above). Then, the PRF is injected into the patient’s scalp. There’s no downtime and the patient is free to leave immediately after the procedure.
